Boston Dynamics shows off latest generation of 'Atlas'

24 February 2016

A new version of Boston Dynamics' humanoid robot Atlas, designed to operate indoors and outdoors, is shown in action in this latest video posting from the company.

Atlas is specialised for mobile manipulation. It is electrically powered and hydraulically actuated and uses sensors in its body and legs to balance, and LIDAR and stereo sensors in its head to avoid obstacles, assess the terrain, help with navigation and manipulate objects. This latest version of Atlas is about 1.75m tall (about a head shorter than the DRC Atlas) and weighs 81kg.
