Farran Technology products now available from Aspen-Admiral

Specialist RF & Microwave distributor, Aspen/Admiral, are now the sole representation for Farran Technology in the UK.

Farran are well respected for their wide range of millimetre-wave components and Subsystems and extend the offering from Aspen in this area.

Design engineers and researchers working with millimetre-wave imaging and millimetre-wave testing will find initial interest in these Farran products.

Farran’s 77 GHz FMCW Radar front end is based on a GaAs MMIC chipset offering wide bandwidth in a small outline package. The transmit signal is derived from an input VCO signal, which also acts as the LO for the receive mixer. The resulting IF is conditioned for gain and filtering as required. This compact, lightweight design has low power consumption and is ideal for applications such as aircraft & vehicular collision avoidance radar, critical area surveillance and incursion detection systems and traffic management systems. 

The PMMW range of modules are designed for passive millimetre-wave imaging (PMMW) applications and provides the unique capability to create high resolution images in low visibility conditions, like through clothing, clouds and fog. Current applications include concealed weapon detection and airplane landing systems. Whilst PMMW modules are available up to 345GHz, a low attenuation atmospheric window from 80-110GHz exists making “W-Band” an ideal candidate for PMMW systems.

Farran also offer modules designed for millimetre-wave test systems. One such is the FPA series driver and power amplifiers - designed using discrete and MMIC pHEMT devices, they operate over the frequency range 18 to 98GHz for high output power applications. For convenient system integration, custom built amplifiers are offered in various RF interfaces, including standard waveguide or coaxial connectors. Another is the WHMB series of high performance harmonic mixers offer low conversion loss with no bias required and are available across the frequency range 40-500GHz.
