Lontra opens new Technology Centre
06 June 2016
Lontra launched a Technology Centre to accelerate the advancements of its trademark oil free compressor technology.
The Technology Centre is a world-class facility usually restricted to universities and multinational firms. The capabilities offered by the Technology Centre will deliver greater energy efficiency and reliability to the compressor market than ever before.
With support from the Royal Academy of Engineering, European Commission, and Warwickshire Growth Network, Lontra has significantly invested in its R&D capabilities to further develop its expertise and market competitiveness. Lontra’s ongoing partnerships with global leader Sulzer and Shield Group Engineering have provided the opportunity for Lontra to compete on an international level as it takes control of a market worth £25 billion.
In the wastewater industry, the Blade Compressor has already proven its energy saving performance; increasing efficiencies by 21.2 percent throughout its trial at Severn Trent Water. Today, the Blade Compressor is licensed and produced worldwide. These advanced testing facilities create an environment suitable for controlling and accurately measuring the true performance of Lontra compressors. The testing will enable Lontra to rapidly progress future designs and deliver these advancements to new sectors which rely upon compression technology.
Steve Lindsey, CEO at Lontra, commented “the opening of our new Technology Centre is a significant milestone for Lontra. This new suite will take our technology to the next level and push the capabilities of our compressor to new limits. We foresee that this will enable us to develop our product for new applications, enter new markets and craft further innovations.”
Rt Hon Jeremy Wright QC MP, Attorney General and MP for Kenilworth, added “Lontra’s new Technology Centre is a fantastic investment for the UK’s engineering industry and will be a huge benefit to the local economy. The recognition that Lontra has received through the wealth of support it has won is enormously encouraging and its global success is helping the Midlands become an important hub for engineering innovation.”
Innovate UK’s West Midlands Regional Manager, Peter Dirken said ”Innovate UK is proud to support pioneering British companies, those that drive productivity and create the industries and jobs of the future. Lontra is a great example of this and we wish them continued success and growth.”
