MASI Power24 – The AS-i system with a standard 24V power supply
01 July 2016
MASI, the AS-Interface product range from Murrelektronik, is the straightforward solution for connecting I/O signals from equipment to higher level control systems.
MASI gives the user the ability to set up incredibly flexible I/O systems without becoming tied to rigid topologies.
Until now, MASI had always relied on an additional 30.5V AS-Interface power supply. On systems with just a few I/Os, in particular, this was a very significant cost factor.
The new MASI Power24 gateways from Murrelektronik now make it possible to use any standard power supply with an output voltage of 24V instead of the 30.5V power supplies used to date. This not only cuts costs, it saves valuable space in the control cabinet and reduces the amount of time spent on installation and documentation. This enables cost-effective automation, even for small applications in compact machines.
The new gateways are available with an interface to Profibus, Profinet and EtherNet/IP fieldbus systems. The data decoupling required for AS-Interface is integrated into the MASI Power24 gateways, eliminating the need for additional components and other unnecessary expenses.
The masters work with AS-Interface Specification 3.0 (M4 master profile) and offer all of the advantages that the new specification entails in terms of diagnostics and functionality. Slaves based on Specification 2.0 or 2.1 can also be integrated because the system is entirely backward compatible.
For commissioning, parameter configuration and diagnostics, the gateways for Profinet and EtherNet/IP offer an integrated, user-friendly web server. This lets the user access the diagnostic and configuration display integrated into the gateway by using a laptop, smartphone or tablet. The content can be accessed directly over a LAN connection through ProfiNet or EtherNet/IP or over a WLAN connection.
Straightforward, user-friendly operation of all the configuration and diagnostic functions in the gateway is now possible over a remote connection. This allows you to move freely around the machine while making any necessary changes to parameters or running diagnostics directly on the AS-Interface slaves. This simplifies commissioning and saves valuable time during troubleshooting.
Automation with Power24 in conjunction with MASI68 is ideal for small systems with line lengths of up to 50m. It provides unbeatable cost advantages because it allows the use of unshielded 4-wire M12 cables. In addition, a multitude of highly granular digital and analogue I/O modules (slaves) are available. The result is efficient decentralisation with maximum flexibility.
