Parallel parking becomes simpler with novel wheel design

01 July 2016

Omnidirectional wheels, designed and created by William Liddiard, lets cars move in any direction, including sliding horizontally.

The ‘Liddiard Wheels’ have the same characteristics as normal tyres; according to the creator they’re designed to be used in all weather and road conditions.

Unlike other omni capable wheels, these ones do not require the car to be built around them. This is a potential world first bolt-on application. They are stronger, faster and more accurately controlled than prior designs.

These wheels are only proof of concept but Liddiard is currently on the search for a company that would consider licensing the design and bring the technology to market.

The results can be seen in the video (courtesy of William Liddiard) as he places the set of wheels on his own car.
