Turn any skateboard electric with simple powertrain

01 August 2016

As boardriders look to find a commute vehicle with flow, the Unlimited Engineering team has created the first Plug & Play Electric Skateboard Powertrain.

With in-wheel motors that mount to any skateboard with no modifications, whether you ride a kicktail, a pintail or a drop-through, with eon you can add electric power to your board within minutes.

eon is the next generation in personal transportation. Just by changing a wheel, eon transforms any skateboard into a powerful electric vehicle. This is possible thanks to the modular patent-pending technology that defines eon from concept to final product. Low-drag in-wheel motors, replaceable battery packs and unmatched direct drive make eon the smoothest and most advanced electric skateboard powertrain ever, on and off power.

Electric-drive vehicles have the potential to dramatically reduce global warming, smog, and toxic pollution from cars and trucks. eon is the perfect companion for multimodal commuting, solving the last mile problem and greatly expanding the efficiency and reach of public transportation.

A feeling once described by a test rider as the push of an “invisible hand” due to its direct drive motors and #OFOC (Optimum Field Oriented Control) technology that produces smooth and silent torque.

The specs:

Modular design allows:

- Single or dual motors to optimise for hills and system weight

- Batteries are easily swapped and one or two can be installed at the same time, giving UNLIMITED range

- Upgradeable & low maintenance

- 1000W per motor for up to 35km/h (22mph) top speed

- 12km (8 mile) range per battery pack (24km with double packs)

- Starting at only 1.5kg

- Bluetooth handheld remote with OLED screen

- Mobile App that allows for custom setup, firmware updates and connecting with other riders to share favourite rides and earn trophies

- Three different boards to choose from depending on riding style: Downhill, Drop or Kicktail

- Use your own board and save some money

eon is the first step of a larger platform for electric-powered mobility that UNLIMITED plans to develop with time. The modular architecture of the PowerPack will allow consumers to utilise it as a personal energy system. The battery, which includes a USB port, can be used on skateboards and other applications that are in development, such as bicycles, AC inverter and more.

The Unlimited Engineering team is formed by Carlos Kübler, Juan Pablo Viera and Alejandro Veloz, a group of engineers passionate about riding, racing, and extreme sports. UNLIMITED’s headquarters are located in beautiful Barcelona, selected by the co-founding team specifically for its tightly-knit community of creatives and athletes. UNLIMITED’s first Electric Vehicle technology product, eon, has been in incubation with the co-founding team since July 2015.

“We envisioned eon as a platform for all your personal energy needs that will only improve as battery technology continues to advance. From powering your transportation through eon and our in-development bike kit, to providing your phone and laptop the ability to charge on the go. The breadth of application is virtually UNLIMITED”  Carlos Kübler, CEO

“Our sealed hub motors and #OFOC technology provide just the smoothest ride from any electric board. It’s efficient, smooth and really stealthy so you can ride it almost anywhere” Alejandro Veloz, Electronics.

“Our #OFOC technology makes the drive so stealthy you can ride it anywhere without anyone even noticing you're under electric powered, besides the fact you can do 35km/h (22mph) on an uphill!”, Juan Pablo Viera, CTO

“Adding complexity (belts, gears) to solve an engineering problem doesn’t equate to advanced engineering. Having the ability to solve an engineering problem while implementing a simple solution does.”, Juan Pablo Viera, CTO

“Some people think of technology and only see a screen or bits and bytes, we believe it's any tool that allows an experience to be possible. A pneumatic tire, a fork, fire, these are all technologies and part of what enable humans. eon is not here to change skating because it never will, it's here to change transportation and enable skating as the disruptor” Carlos Kübler, CEO.
