Wireless earphones, enhanced battery life, waterproof and dust resistant…what more could you want from the new iPhone 7?

Apple’s long awaited announcement of its iPhone 7 and 7 Plus claims it to be ‘the best, most advanced iPhone ever, packed with unique innovations that improve all the ways iPhone is used everyday’.

The iPhone features advanced camera technology, more power and performance from the battery, immersive stereo speakers, a wide colour system and it’s the first water and dust resistant iPhone.

Advanced camera

The 12-megapixel camera includes optical image stabilisation and a six element lens for brighter, more detailed photos and videos. The iPhone 7 Plus features the same 12-megapixel camera but adds a 12-megapixel telephoto camera that combined offer optical zoom at two times and up to ten times digital zoom for photos.

The new camera also enables a depth-of-field effect, using both of the cameras on the iPhone 7 Plus to capture images, innovative technology and machine learning separates the background from the foreground to achieve enhanced portraits.

Additional camera advancements include:

• New Apple-designed Image Signal Processor, which processes over 100 billion operations on a single photo in as little as 25 milliseconds;

• New 7-megapixel FaceTime HD camera with wide colour capture, advanced pixel technology and auto image stabilisation for even better selfies; and

• New Quad-LED True Tone flash that is 50 percent brighter than iPhone 6s including an innovative sensor that detects the flickering in lights and compensates for it in videos and photos.

Better performance and battery life

The new Apple A10 Fusion chip features a new design that makes it the most powerful chip ever seen in a smartphone, according to Apple. It can achieve more time between charges with the longest battery life out of all the iPhones.

The A10 Fusion’s CPU now has four cores, integrating two high-performance cores that run up to two times faster than the previous iPhone and two high-efficiency cores that are capable of running at just one-fifth the power of the high-performance cores. Graphics performance runs up to three times faster than the iPhone 6 and at half the power.

The iPhone 7 and the 7 Plus include support for up to 25 LTE bands, for some of the best roaming in the industry, and LTE Advanced for three times faster data rates at up to 450Mbps.

Better quality of sound

Perhaps one of the most prevalent features in the new phone is the wireless headphones. The AirPods reinvent the wireless experience to make headphones easy to use and, with no headphone jack, free up more component space in the iPhone. Featuring Apple’s new W1 chip, the AirPods improve sound and battery life. They also harness the power of Siri, allowing customer’s access with just a double tap. A 3.5mm headphone jack is also available that allows customers to use old headphones and accessories.

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will be available as of 16 September, in silver, gold, rose and black. Models start at £599 with the new jet black finish only offered exclusively on the 128GB and 256GB models.
