Moisture adsorbing polymer can be moulded and machined

Brownell’s new VMAP moisture adsorbing polymer materials can be moulded and machined to specific shapes to protect instruments, electronics and systems or enclosures from humidity while also removing odours and organic volatiles, and can also be used for specialist and long-term packaging.
Developed from a combination of polymers and adsorbent desiccants, this advanced material offers new and improved opportunities for preventing the damaging effects of moisture and high humidity including condensation and corrosion.
Easily fixed in place using screw fasteners, adhesives or other mechanical methods, it is practical for small or large production quantities and ideal for producing low-cost prototypes. With a wide operating temperature range and high adsorption capacity that can be fully reactivated when saturated, the material also has low dusting and particle loss.
The material’s full adsorption capacity is maintained during the moulding process, even with complex shapes needed to fill all available space for the highest level of protection, along with the added advantage of the polymer’s vapour adsorption property.
Humidity or moisture and extended use in hostile environments can cause malfunctions and low reliability performance of many industrial or marine systems and products. VMAP material provides a superior level of protection compared to conventional choices such as desiccant bags and panel mounted desiccators.
