McLaren puts an end to Apple investment rumours
23 September 2016
The BBC has reported that supercar company McLaren has put to rest the rumours about Apple’s interest in the company.
According to a recent report in The Financial Times, both companies had been talking for quite some time. It was rumoured a potential deal would see Apple pay approximately £1.5bn for McLaren or invest in a part of it.
The BBC understands that McLaren had been discussing the Apple car with the technology giant, with Apple wanting to accelerate its car project.
A McLaren spokesperson has since issued a statement: “We can confirm that McLaren is not in discussion with Apple in respect of any potential investment."
Apple has stated that it “does not comment on rumours or speculation”.
Whilst the rumours have been put to rest, some people still believe that discussions are going on behind closed doors. We can’t deny that collaboration between these two companies would be revolutionary for the automotive industry.
