Small linear axis for large tasks

22 March 2017

Small, light and flat – these are the properties of the low-profile, linear axis drylin SLN-27.

When used in combination with the dryspin high-helix threads, the linear axis not only carries out simple handling tasks; by implementing a stepper or DC motor, it can also handle high-speed sensor adjustments.

The drylin SLN-27 is based on the low profile linear guide system drylin N with a rail width of 27mm. The materials and the design make drylin N a cost-effective and flexible guide system. The guide rail is made of sturdy, anodised aluminum. With its compact dimensions, 22mm in height and 28mm in width, the linear unit is particularly suitable for confined spaces. Due to the plastic plain bearings in the lead screw mountings and guide carriages, the system is self-lubricating and therefore maintenance free.

“The drylin SLN-27 is not only small, light and flat, but also fast with 25mm strokes in one revolution," says Robert Dumayne, dry-tech director, igus. This means that the low profile linear axis can also be used for quick handling and positioning tasks. For dynamic motion and a low-clearance run, the lead screws can also be mounted with ball bearings. The effective clearance of the guide carriage can be adjusted via screws. The feed is carried out via a lead screw with a diameter of 6.35mm. Five pitch options – 0.8, 2.54, 5.08, 12.7 and 25.4mm – of the high-helix thread are available.

With a base weight of only 60g, the linear axis is one of the lightweights among the driven linear guide systems. Even with the maximum stroke length of 250mm, the low profile actuator weighs only 160g. If the axis is delivered in combination with a NEMA 11 stepper motor, the exterior dimensions still amount to a compact 28 x 28mm. The portfolio also includes DC motors with or without radial assembly kits. As an option other motors can also be connected quickly and easily via a motor flange.

The entire modular system of the drylin SLN-27 low profile axes offers three different carriage options – from the low-priced beginner model and carriages with manual clearance and height adjustment up to the precisely adjustable system with preload function – as well as five different pitches and three motor variants.
