Over the last year, Virtual Reality has exploded in the public consciousness, but many still think of it as tech solely for recreation and entertainment. Until now, most businesses and consumers have not had an opportunity to explore VR, truly immerse themselves in the technology and discover the wide variety of applications that it is transforming.

The show, hosted at The Business Design Centre in Islington, will make Virtual Reality more accessible than ever before - visitors can try VR tech for themselves, discovering its varied applications in a series of custom-built experiential feature spaces. There will be hundreds of VR systems on the show floor, allowing attendees to enjoy VR experiences within their areas of interest.

The show has recently announced it will be building a dedicated eight room VR Hospital, which will be located in the centre of the show floor.

VR hospital

The VR Hospital showcases eight major medical and healthcare projects covering everything from Virtual Reality CPR training and surgical simulation, through to experiencing the effects of old age and degenerative conditions. Come and try performing a live operation in VR or discover what it’s like to live with Alzheimer’s Disease.

VR military base

Meet the teams that are driving VR applications within the UK Defence industry. Enter the VR Combat Zone where you can try Zotac backpacks with Bravemind for mobile VR, and experience some of the most cutting-edge tech being used within this sector. The University of Southern California Institute for Creative Technologies (ICT) team behind the Bravemind project will be onsite to talk about how this interactive, Virtual Reality-based exposure therapy tool is being used to provide relief from combat-related post-traumatic stress (PTSD).

VR art workshop

In the art feature space, you can experience fully immersive 360° artworks, navigating your way through Kevin Mack’s VR Gallery and Maze. For attendees who have a creative streak, you can get hands-on and try designing something in VR for yourself.

Automotive

The show will also host the Digital Engineering & Test Centre (DETC) VR automotive feature, where it will have two incredible racing cars at the show, demonstrating the best in VR automotive experiences.

Major news announcement surrounding this to follow shortly!

Show highlights

Para parachute

Para Parachute utilises the unique combination of an Oculus Rift headset, a Cooler Master hardware system and an interactive suspension frame, which allow you to feel the drop of freefall. You can then ride through the sky, using the system to navigate and, just like a real-life parachutist, land on your mark. This system illustrates how VR can give access to experiences that are out-of-reach to so many people.

HoloLens demonstration suites

Microsoft will be presenting a range of HoloLens demonstration suites, where trained Microsoft experts will be giving demonstrations of its Mixed Reality tech in a realistic setting, showing the power of Microsoft HoloLens and allowing you to experience MR for yourself.
