The show is the partner event to the long-running Southern Manufacturing show, following a similar format and scope, but with a particular regional focus reflecting the unique character of engineering enterprise in the area. Major global brands sharing the floor with highly-specialised local engineering firms makes the show an unmissable event for designers, manufacturers and engineers from across the North.
It is also a highly accessible one; free entry and free onsite parking for 3,000 cars make it possible to easily fit in a visit as part of a working day. EventCity is also easily reached by public transport from Manchester city centre for those wishing to spend a more relaxed day exploring what the show has to offer. As in previous years, the exhibitor list includes plenty of well-known names, including some of the larger international machinery and industrial equipment manufacturers, presenting alongside a broad selection of component suppliers and leading engineering subcontractors.
Manufacturing is incredibly important to the regional economy, with industries such as pharmaceuticals, aerospace and automotive very much at the forefront. The North West’s aerospace industry accounts for roughly a quarter of the UK’s £32bn aerospace business, employing some 25,000 skilled workers and supporting a rich eco-system of suppliers throughout the country. Automotive and transportation manufacture is also a major contributor to the regional economy, with Bentley, Leyland Trucks, Vauxhall and Jaguar Land Rover all having a substantial presence. Given the show’s location at the centre of this manufacturing activity, it’s perhaps not surprising that machinery and advanced manufacturing are one of the most popular single areas for visitors, accounting for around 30 percent of visits.
Yamazaki Mazak returns to Northern Manufacturing this year with live demonstrations of its VARIAXIS range of 5-axis machining centres. Mazak has a long association with UK manufacturing, in particular providing advanced manufacturing solutions for the North’s aerospace sector, making the Northern Manufacturing & Electronics show the ideal showcase for its machines’ capabilities.
Axminster will demonstrate the iKX3 mill and iKC6 lathe from its CNC Technology Series, together with a range of pillar drills from the Axminster Engineer Series: SB-16, SB-25, SB-250 and SB-25-TC. The machines are designed for prototype and light engineering, small production workshops and component makers, fabrication works for testing, research and development, and the education sector including UTCs (university technical colleges). Axminster is also the exclusive UK distributor of the Jet Elite range of mills, lathes and bandsaws.
As the region’s only annual electronics show, Northern is also an important event for electronic components, design and contract manufacturing. Lemo UK returns for 2017 with its comprehensive range of connectors. Niche component exhibitors include magnetic components specialist MagDev. Contract electronics manufacturing services on show include European Circuits, assembly specialists LCL Electronics and multi-discipline service provider Trojan Electronics.
First-time exhibitor Electrica is a BS EN ISO9001:2015 registered company offering electronic design, development and manufacturing services from its 12,500 sq. ft premises in Cheshire. In-house design is backed by surface mount production lines as well as through-hole and box build capabilities, complimented by sophisticated test and inspection equipment. Other Electronics production hardware to be found at Northern 2017 includes soldering, de-soldering and rework stations from PACE Europe, cable preparation and surface mount production from Turner Electronics and modular test and simulation systems from Pickering Interfaces.
Alongside the show itself is a comprehensive free technical seminar programme, giving visitors the chance of a welcome break from pounding the aisles and the opportunity to learn about the latest ideas in manufacturing from acknowledged experts in their respective fields.
Entry to Northern Manufacturing & Electronics 2017 and on-site parking is free with easy access by road. EventCity is very accessible by public transport from central Manchester.
