Back in 2015, MegaBots, a USA team of engineers, completed construction of America’s first giant piloted robot. The MK. II MegaBot is 15ft tall, 12,000lb and capable of hurling 3lb projectiles at speeds over 130mph.

The only other known robot of this kind was in Japan; called KURATAS and created by a group called Suidobashi Heavy Industries, this robot is 9,000lb.

So, the team at MegaBots decided to challenge Suidobashi, and they accepted! They accepted under the conditions that the flight includes melee combat.

Since then, MegaBots crowdfunded their robot on Kickstarter in order to upgrade and prepare it for the battle. They raised over $500,000, allowing the new MK. III robot to not only swing punches but to roll with them. He is now a 12-ton, 430-horsepower steel crushing bot!

The fight’s already happened but will be streamed on Twitch, 7pm PT, October 17.
