Nike Adapt is a platform that utilises an advanced power-lacing system, an app and continually updated firmware to bring users a performance shoe that is truly personalised. Nike have now introduced a revolutionary basketball shoe called Nike Adapt BB – a shoe with a specially designed lace system that comfortably closes around your entire foot, as tight or as loose as you desire.

When the user steps into the trainers, a custom motor and gear train senses the tension needed by the foot and adjusts accordingly. Using the smartphone app, users can input different settings to either tighten or loosen the trainer, ideal for different stages of the game.

“We picked basketball as the first sport for Nike Adapt intentionally because of the demands that athletes put on their shoes,” says Eric Avar, Nike VP Creative Director of Innovation. “During a normal basketball game the athlete’s foot changes and the ability to quickly change your fit by loosening your shoe to increase blood flow and then tighten again for performance is a key element that we believe will improve the athlete’s experience."

The shoes will be available as of February, for $350.
