Disruptive compressor technology delivers significant energy savings
01 April 2019
The compressor is at the heart of a wide range of applications; it is an integral part of fridges, cars and industrial processes from water treatment to cement and food processing.
Yet despite its central role in industry, the compressor’s basic design has hardly changed in over 80 years.
Any changes that have been made to compressors over the years have been minimal and gradual, overlooking the inefficiencies of core compressor design on energy consumption.
Collectively, air compressors account for a staggering 10 percent of industrial electricity use in Europe and as much as 40 percent in some plants. That equates to over 10TWh of electricity every year and 4.3 million tonnes of CO2, leading to significant amounts of energy being consumed and representing a large cost to manufacturers’ businesses.
This is where the Lontra Blade Compressor comes in; the first widely applicable and completely new compressor technology to disrupt industry.
