Spelsberg enclosures look tough for security operations

Speak to any security professional and they will tell you the same thing, appearance is almost as important as performance.
Often it’s possible to diffuse or prevent a situation before it begins if security looks the part. The same is true of CCTV systems and security cameras, where a professional looking system can often deter criminals. Spelsberg is a key supplier of junction boxes for many UK security system installers, thanks to its ability to provide enclosures in black.
Spelsberg is the UK’s largest ex-stock supplier of non-metallic electrical enclosures in the UK. With manufacturing support direct from the headquarters in Germany, it is able to deliver highly customised solutions where customers’ industry demands require them. In 2016 they were asked to provide black junction boxes for a major UK supplier of CCTV and security equipment who wanted to improve the overall aesthetics of their installation. Three years later, Spelsberg is an industry standard.
Chris Lloyd, Managing Director of Spelsberg UK, explains: “When CCTV is in public view, aesthetics are almost as important as function. Property owners want their systems to be discrete, yet still look highly professional and effective for anyone who might be paying close attention. The standard colour for plastic enclosures is grey, while most cameras and accessories are black. By modifying our products, we are able to supply high quality enclosures that are consistent with the rest of the installation.”
Of course, form must follow function. Typically, Spelsberg supplies enclosures from its HP range: high volume, price competitive and IP55 protected. The junction boxes are robust for installation in high traffic areas and are available with a screw-on lid to prevent tampering. They are manufactured from halogen-free, flame-resistant polypropylene and offer heat resistance up to 100ºC. The range is available in a selection of standard sizes and are supplied with a terminal block where required.
Chris continues: “Our HP range had been used by a lot of installers for a number of years before this, but always in our standard grey. As soon as the market realised that black was an option it took off. Now we are supplying it almost as the standard for all industry customers. It’s a perfect example of how a personal touch can take a good product and make it great.”
