Selecting the best enclosures for washdown environments
30 September 2020
In many industries, including the food and beverage industry, electronic devices need to withstand washdown conditions. Within a busy industrial kitchen environment, electronic devices may come into contact with a variety of substances.

These could include oil and grease, food and other debris that need to be cleaned on a daily basis to ensure the smooth operation of equipment and to stop the spread of bacteria and germs.
Cleaning with the use of pressurised water is a common and effective way of cleaning down areas quickly and easily. However, when we introduce water to electrical components, damage is inevitable – creating system failures, expensive
repair costs or even hazards to nearby operators.
In areas where washdown is a daily routine, a suitable waterproof enclosure needs to be specified and designed. This can include enclosures that are resistant against corrosion and/or submersion, which provide increased benefits, depending on the end application.
CamdenBoss manufactures a wide range of waterproof enclosures, designed to meet the requirements of different electronic devices, applications and working environments. This article will look at the characteristics that enclosures should have, the protection ratings required and the material options, as well as suitable enclosure recommendations.
