Medical power supplies: Balancing thermal design with safety regulations

30 November 2020

The LOF series of AC-DC power supplies from Mornsun is designed to meet multiple regulatory standards, increase system reliability through sound thermal design – with short lead times and cost-sensitive pricing.

For medium- and high-power AC-DC power design, engineers have to consider several factors, including the thermal design, safety regulations, space envelope and system reliability. In addition, the nature of many design projects means that cost also needs to be considered, together with size, as space is frequently limited in today’s designs. In competitive projects, reliable delivery and short lead times are also high on the list of considerations that need to be evaluated at the start of the design.

There are three open-frame AC-DC converters in the LOF Series. The very high power density 120 to 350W AC-DC power supplies are in industry-standard packages and are designed for reliable operation. In addition to meeting the latest regulatory standards, the thermal design ensures safe, reliable operation in safety-critical applications.

The LOF120, LOF225 and LOF350 models offer up to 95 percent efficiency – in compact form factors (from as little as 101 x 50.0 x 25mm or 4.0” x 2.0” x 1.0”) – yet deliver output power up to 1.7W/cm3. Operating temperature range is -40°C to +85°C, making them suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
