Single output power supply delivers 300W from a footprint of just 4 x 2in

Vox Power announces the VCCS300S, a tiny conduction cooled power supply that delivers 300W of silent and dust-free output power from a tiny 4in x 2in x 1.61in (101.6 x 50.8 x 40.89mm) package.

Designed for the global industrial sector, the VCCS300S design focuses on high efficiency and reliability to offer maximum flexibility to design engineers during system integration, especially those working in robotics, automation, test and measurement and areas like industrial lasers.

Weighing just 310g, it is a true conduction cooled power supply which delivers best in class performance capable of delivering up to 80% more power than competitive products in the same package. To increase the scope of applications for the power supply or to satisfy the needs of its working environment, the VCCS300S can also be convection or forced-air cooled.

According to Brian McDonald, CTO at Vox Power, the new power supply achieves very high efficiencies of up to 95% and, when mounted correctly, the unique cooling techniques allow for very effective heat dissipation enabling full power operation up to 40°C ambient. The power supply complies with UL/IEC62368-1 as well as various MIL-STD standards which makes it very suitable for ruggedised environments.

By bringing units together, either in parallel or in series, output power can be scaled to 600W, 900W and beyond making the VCCS300S suitable as a power platform serving multiple products with varied power output requirements.

“What we have done with the VCCS300S is successfully converge two power market segments,” says Marco Prinsloo, CEO. “On the one hand, there are miniaturised applications which may have limited space for a power supply but have increased power requirements to achieve the required application feature set. The VCCS300 addresses this challenge by offering a much higher output power from the tiny package. “

“Then, there are higher power applications where customers want to reduce the size of their offerings but are again limited because higher-power units are only available in larger footprints. The VCCS300S delivers output power levels which have historically only been available from much larger 5 x 3in power supplies. Such applications include industrial lasers, automation, robotics and 3D printing,” adds David Carley, Business Development at Vox Power.

Key specifications 

Input voltage range is 85 to 264VAC (0.99 power factor) and output voltages are set initially at 12, 24 and 48VDC with in-between voltages up to 58VDC available on request. Figures for load and line regulation as well as ripple and noise are excellent while no load power consumption is below 1W.

Apart from 95% efficiency, key features naturally include excellent low leakage and touch current levels and protection against over voltage and over temperature, both with auto restart. Over current and short circuit protection are also standard. 

The new power supply is widely available from a global distribution network and, in common with all its products, Vox Power backs the VCCS300S with a 5-year warranty.
