Fibre optic E-stop

01 October 2008

The new Pico-Guard fibre optic emergency stop button complements Banner’s fibre optic based Pico-Guard machine safety system. The device works in conjunction with a Pico-Guard controller, and other optical elements from the system portfolio, in both personnel safety and equipment protection applications.

Banner’s plastic fibre optic cable is used throughout, and this provides a fast and easy means of connecting and disconnecting devices to and from the fibre network. The fibre media avoids the hassles and hazards of electrical conductors, which are commonly used to connect safety devices.

When paired with the controller, the E-stop button meets safety Category 4 requirements (compliant with ISO 13849-1) and is also certified for use in harsh environments and potentially explosive atmospheres. Banner’s new E-stop is rated to IP65 and complies with IEC 60204-1 emergency stop requirements.
