Versatile, all-electric linear and rotary actuators

23 October 2008

Wittenstein has introduced a family of integrated linear and rotary servo controlled actuators that provides a more flexible alternative to pneumatic actuators. The Ternary BLM actuators can deliver up to 1kN of axial force or 20Nm of torque. The actuators have serial and parallel interfaces and can offer Profibus, CANopen or DeviceNet communications options. The devices accept a pulse input and provide an A/B encoder output that allows the actuator to be controlled directly without using a bus interface. Up to 64 positions can be stored in internal memory.

The IP65 protected linear versions feature a ball screw drive and a stainless-steel connecting rod, and are available with strokes from 25 to 300mm. They can achieve velocities of up to 1m/s and achieve a positioning resolution of 1.5um. The IP64 rotary versions provide a resolution of up to 0.5 arc-min.
