New sealant handles flexible joints

02 March 2009

To cope with the increasing levels of micro-movements within the engine and gearbox environments of motor vehicles, Henkel has developed a new sealant under the Loctite brand name. Called Loctite 5188, this anaerobic product can be applied as a thin film, yet still provide the flexibility to seal parts and create a robust joint.

"Traditional anaerobics do not always provide the flexibility needed for some of these high torque situations," explains Colin Chapman, marketing manager at Henkel. "What’s more, some manufacturers are not keen to use silicones. That’s why we have developed this new sealant with properties that make it highly flexible, yet tough enough for the most demanding of tasks. Beyond that, this product could help improve the performance of components."

The new sealant can be applied using a robot, roller or a screen printer; all of which can be supplied by Henkel Equipment Department.
