Recent developments in insert technology have seen the introduction of self-tapping threaded inserts for low cost, high performance fastening of modern engineering plastics. The Tappex Trisert, for example, produces strong, wear-resistant threads in materials from standard thermoplastics through thermoplastic foams to reaction injection moulded materials, GRP and thermoset plastics such as phenolic The Series II Trisert has three equidistant cutting flutes plus three shallow flutes over the length of the external form. This ensures that effective cutting action takes place at a greater number of points on the thread form over the length and circumference of the insert, providing more balanced cutting and reduced installation torque.
