Machine tool investment means more efficient production of spur and helical gears
26 January 2011
A £500k investment in a Gleason-Pfauter P400ES CNC shaping machine tool will enable Davall Gears to produce both spur and helical gearing more efficiently, utilising electronic controls to remove the need for expensive mechanical guides. This electronic guide system will increase flexibility by eliminating the requirement to change guides for different leads and handings, while increasing capacity to cut two or more gears in a single setup.
The P400 ES will routinely achieve AGMA 9-10 grade (ISO 7-8 quality) manufacture without the need for gear grinding, with a workpiece diameter (internal & external) of 400mm. The machine is also fitted with an additional 2 axis control allowing the manufacture of tapered internal and external spur and helical gears.
Davall is one of the major manufacturers of ‘custom made’ precision gears and gearboxes in the UK, supplying into Military, Aerospace, Medical and Commercial markets.
