IRISS intoduces world's first rectangular IR transmissive windows for electrical panel inspection
13 April 2011
Infra red inspection windows, enabling thermographers to measure hot spots in an electrical enclosure without having to open the enclosure door, are usually round in shape and generally less than 10cm in diameter. This restricts coverage and often necessitates the inclusion of several apertures in order to gain full coverage of the enclosure contents. Now, IRISS has launched what it is claiming as a world first - rectangular IR windows - in 6in, 12in and 24in widths.

The new CAP (custom application products) windows use IRISS' patented reinforced polymer lens technology, which meets all requirements for durability and impact resistance. Indeed, IRISS is the world's only manufacturer of industrial grade IR windows.
IR windows ensure the safety of maintenance personnel, particularly when inspecting live MV or HV panels, as enclosure doors do not have to be opened, thus eliminating the risk of injury from catastrophic arc flash events. Inspectors do not need to wear protective clothing and their inspections are faster, and can be undertaken more regularly.
The new CAP windows can be customised to include optical viewing panes, and can be supplied with or without hinged covers. Thanks to the flexibility of its reinforced polymer lenses, IRISS can provide virtually any shape of window, including curved versions for cylindrical enclosures such as motor cases.
