Machine Health Monitoring In The Hand

01 May 2001

SKF's new Marlin condition detector (MCD) is now available widely through
BSL's network of sales outlets. The handheld device connects to a
programmable stud (sensor with integral memory), pre-fixed to a suitable
measurement point on the machine. It measures vibration velocity and
temperature, allowing detection of imbalance, misalignment, wear and
lubrication problems. Three LEDs (green, amber and red) indicate the
machine's condition, green showing no problems, amber indicating that
some investigation may be necessary and red warning of more serious
problems. The detector can also be programmed with up to six alarm
settings, and all data can be downloaded for more detailed analysis via
SKF's handheld Marlin Data Manager.
