Cognex sets new benchmark in fixed-mount barcode reading
16 May 2011
The high performance, fixed-mount barcode reader, DataMan 500 from Cognex Corporation is now available for factory automation applications. DataMan 500 is the first ID reader to be powered by a proprietary vision chip, called Cognex VSoC, which provides ease of use with trigger-free reading and ultra-high frame rates. These features reduce overall set-up cost and deployment time.

DataMan 500 offers the same powerful and proven 1DMax and 2DMax code reading technology found in other DataMan products but VSoC technology ensures unprecedented speeds on 1-D barcode reading with up to 90 decodes per second and ultrafast image acquisition with auto-exposure, at up to 1,000 frames per second.
To achieve greater depth of field, DataMan 500 provides flexible lens options and field interchangeable lighting. Lens options include a choice of C-mount or variable focus liquid lens, while lighting options include integrated LED lighting and a high-powered illumination accessory for high-performance reading.
DataMan 500 also supports Cognex Connect communication capabilities, which includes EtherNet/IP and ProfiNet. DataMan 500 can be accessed from any terminal connected to the network, which means that no host PC is required to translate data to a PLC or central network. The protocols also allow for data files and images to be archived directly through FTP support for later review and analysis.
