ABB launches all-in-one string inverter
08 December 2011
ABB has introduced a string inverter that converts direct current generated from photovoltaic cells into alternating current for use in residential and small and medium-sized commercial and industrial buildings. The PVS300, rated from 3.3kW to 8kW is aimed at installers and end-users and includes built-in protection functions that reduce the need for costly and space-consuming external protection devices and larger enclosures.
Compact, reliable, safe and suitable for installations using multiple inverters, the new transformerless, single-phase inverter has an intuitive and versatile control unit that is equipped with a graphical display. Built-in assistants and a help menu ensure that the control unit’s functionalities are easy to use.
There are three mounting options for the control unit. It can be integrated within the inverter housing, or mounted separately on a wall to monitor inverter performance from outside the installation room. It can be also wirelessly connected so the inverter can be installed in a remote part of the site, and monitored wirelessly from inside the home or main building.
The string inverter has several features included as standard:
• Integrated and monitored string fuses
• Integrated and monitored DC side surge protection devices
• Integrated DC switch
• Detachable control unit with graphical display
The ABB string inverter features a remote monitoring adapter, SREA-50. The adapter’s internal web server provides easy access for monitoring the online and historical data of the photovoltaic system using a standard PC. The SREA-50 can monitor the performance of a multi-inverter system from any location.
"We believe that the ABB string inverter is the most advanced, all-in-one string inverter on the market today,” says Jyrki Leppänen, director for solar inverter market management at ABB. “As the world’s largest frequency converter manufacturer we have been able to apply many years of research and development into getting this product just right. We are in a very strong position to take substantial market share over the next five years with our range of small power inverters. Furthermore, we are now building up our channels to the market and are actively looking for partners to help us achieve our rapid sales growth targets.”
