Powerful and versatile industrial gear units from SEW Eurodrive
16 April 2012
SEW Eurodrive’s heavy-duty X series range of helical and bevel helical units offers a choice of 23 finely graduated sizes, with torque ratings from 6.8 to 475kNm. This enables a close match of gearbox to application, rather than having to specify one that’s too big because a requirement falls in the middle of two size options.
Modular in concept, and with the availability of predefined accessories, the units are highly flexible and may be adapted to suit a wide range of different applications. Moreover, the reversible gear unit housing of the X series units allows for variable installations with a single version.
This means there is a reduced number of variants for both operators and original equipment manufacturers alike. Other key features of the X series includes, operational safety, ease of maintenance, extremely robust gear unit housings, low noise operation and efficient cooling systems.
SEW Eurodrive’s IG (Industrial Gearbox) range also includes the MC, ML and MD series of helical and bevel helical units with a torque capacity of up to 2,584kNm. The MC series offers compact units designed for applications where the space envelope is limited and with lower torque requirements up to 65kNm. The ML series is for customer-specific applications and tailor-made solutions for large machines and systems with torque up to 680kNm. The range also includes the P and XP series of planetary gearboxes with a torque range of 24kNm – 6,000kNm.
The company operates a design and manufacturing plant dedicated to industrial gears so that even large, bespoke units can be designed and manufactured quickly. All SEW Eurodrive’s industrial gearboxes are ATEX approved and its X series range is certified to ATEX M2 for underground, mining applications.
Shown here are several examples of heavy duty industrial gearboxes from SEW Eurodrive.
The company is unveiling its new Mining Drive for the first time in the UK at this year’s Hillhead exhibition (June 19-21, Buxton, Derbyshire, stand E20). The new drive is available as a package to provide customers with a one-stop-shop service. It has a thermal housing so no additional cooling is required and is certified to comply with ATEX M2 underground mining environment.
Visitors to the stand will be able to see a range of drive packages commonly found in the mining and quarrying industries. These include a slewing drive with a high efficiency DRE motor, an RF97 in-line helical pre-stage gear head, and the latest P022 Planetary gear head, complete with pinion lantern and drive pinion. The package includes a motor brake with a lockable manual release, thermistors, electronic encoder and a rain canopy.
Various X series units will be on show, along with the latest size 7 Movidrive inverter, with a power rating of up to 315kW, and cut-away models of the company’s market leading 7 series high efficiency helical and bevel helical geared motors. There will also be an X series gear unit complete with half-body flange coupling for conveyor applications.
