Pressure indication as simple as a ‘Litmus’ test

The next generation of affordable, tactile pressure sensor film technology has arrived, significantly improving visual detail, while remaining environmentally friendly and easy to use.
Sensor Products has released its 'Pressurex-micro Green' (PMG), a tactile surface pressure mapping sensor film that is claimed to have the highest resolution and visual detail currently available for fast and accurate surface contact stress analysis.
Whether your application involves bolted interfaces, impressions between rollers, fine lines of electronic circuitry, lamination presses or heat sealers, you no longer need to be content with grainy and pixilated surface pressure maps.
Using a combination of adhesives and pigment coating processes based on toxin-free recyclable materials, PMG achieves all you want from a surface mapping product, but without the environmental baggage. Sensor Products’ president, Jeffrey Stark takes up the story
“Pressurex-micro Green was developed in response to customers’ needs for an inexpensive yet credible surface pressure mapping sensor. It fulfils our customers’ primary requirement – pressure distribution mapping at a sharply reduced price. By excluding the frequently unnecessary feature of pressure magnitude determination, engineers are able to obtain a-la-carte functionality paying only for what they really need. Now, instead of waiting, users can perform an immediate visual assessment.”
PMG is thin (0.2mm), flexible and conformable, allowing its use in tight spaces - especially where draping over curved surfaces is required. Like other surface pressure mapping products, PMG comes on a roll and is easily cut with scissors to the sizes and shapes required for the application.
It is essentially a colour-changing visual indicator film that captures and reveals surface contact force between any two physically contacting surfaces, the colour change is instantaneous and permanent, and the more intense the colour, the higher the pressure.
The product is supplied in five pressure ranges (0.1-4kg/cm2; 2-7kg/cm2; 4-32kg/cm2; 20-105kg/cm2 and 25-250kg/cm2) to reveal pressure within these ranges, but does not reveal the actual pressure magnitude.
PMG is a consumable that is ready to use out of its packaging - no training or special set-up required. Interpretation is entirely visual, so no instrumentation is needed to analyse the results, and the results are instantaneous.
Sensor Products is currently offering free samples of PMG so that you can test its efficacy on your own applications. Email email@example.com or click here for details.
