Design a steering wheel for the Bloodhound supersonic car

Product Innovation Congress, Bloodhound SSC, Altair and GrabCAD challenge you to design a steering wheel for the Bloodhound supersonic car, with a deadline of January 31, 2013.

The judges will include representatives from Product Innovation Congress, Bloodhound, Altair, DEVELOP3D magazine and GrabCAD. Prizes include $1,000 cash, free pass to the Product Innovation Congress, a copy of the 3D conceptual design software 'solidThinking Inspire' provided by the PI 2013 sponsor Altair, a GrabCAD T-shirt and coffee mug. The winners will be announced at the Product Innovation Congress on February 19, 2013.

“This is one of the most exciting challenges we have yet!,” says GrabCAD`s Sales Director, Lauri Poldre. “This time, it is up to the GrabCAD Community to create a steering column and wheel for the BLOODHOUND Supersonic Car. Your design will be the sole connection of control between the driver, World-record holder and RAF Wing Commander Andy Green and a car rocketing across the desert at Mach 1.4!”

Bloodhound SSC is the result of remarkable engineering that allows the ultimate racing car to accelerate from 0 – 1,609 km/h and back to zero in just 120 seconds, while sagely handling the phenomenal forces and loads acting upon it such as 47,000 pounds thrust (equivalent to 180 F1 cars) generated by its jet and rocket engines; 30 tonne suspension loadings; air pressures on the bodywork of up to 10 tonne per square metre and solid aluminium wheels, each weighing 105 kg spinning at 10,200 rpm and generating an extraordinary 50,000 G at the rim.
