Vacon launches IP66 rated decentralised drive
10 June 2013
Even when they’re operating outdoors in extreme weather conditions, ac variable speed drives in the latest Vacon 100 X range need no additional protection of any kind.

With a power range of up to 37kW, Vacon 100 X drives feature a rugged die-cast metal enclosure with an IP66 ingress protection rating and have an exceptionally wide operating temperature range of -40 ºC to +60 ºC, allowing them to perform reliably and consistently in even the toughest of operating conditions.
The drives can be mounted in any orientation and are also resistant to vibration of upto 3g. As a result, they can be mounted directly on the motor they are controlling, if required.
Suitable for use with standard induction motors and with the latest high-efficiency permanent magnet motors, the 100 X drives fully support decentralised control system architectures and, as standard, have integrated RS485 Modbus and Ethernet communication ports. The also have built-in EMC filters for EN61800-3 category C2 applications, and can optionally be supplied with filters for C1 applications.
Other key features include a safe-torque-off (STO) mode that conforms with the requirements for SIL3, an integrated brake chopper and a PTC input that can be used to provide enhanced motor overload protection.
In addition, they use the latest film capacitor technology to ensure long working life and to minimise environmental impact.
