Two new sensor products from Kistler

Kistler has introduced new miniature force sensors for applications with limited space, plus a new non-contacting torque sensor.
The new Type 9215A miniature force sensor from Kistler Instruments is only 23.3mm long and 6.0mm diameter and weighs only 2.5g making it ideal for both laboratory and industrial applications where space is at a premium.
This highly sensitive, piezoelectric force sensor is suitable for measuring quasi-static and dynamic tensile and compression forces from 1mN to 200N in three calibrated ranges. The sensor has a sealed DIN 1.4542 stainless steel body with an M5x0.5 external mounting thread and an M2 tapped bore for force input.
The versatility offered by the three measuring ranges, 2N, 20N and 200N, and the low force sensitivity make the new sensor exceptionally suited to a wide range of applications in product testing and for highly sensitive force measurements in research and development.
Also new from Kistler is the Type 4520A sensor for measuring torque on shafts rotating at up to 10,000rpm. It uses frequency modulation to transmit the torque signal from the rotating shaft without contact and convert it into an analogue signal.
This system is considerably more reliable than slip-ring signal transmission which can suffer signal loss due to dirt and wear on the slip-rings. In the past, contactless sensors have been more expensive than slip-ring types but this design costs about the same as inferior slip-ring types.
The sensor has a TTL speed signal at 60 pulses/revolution and an external 100 percent range check input. Ten units cover the range from 1 to 1,000Nm, all with standard ±10V signal output, and 150 percent overload capacity. Suitable for static and dynamic measurement of torque in assembly, for quality control in production and in laboratory applications.
