ATEX certified absolute encoders for offshore position sensing applications

McLennan is now supplying ATEX and IECEx certified absolute rotary encoders from its distribution partner Leine & Linde.

Based on the heavy-duty 900 series and available as application customised options, the multi-turn encoders are fully sealed and have extremely high resilience to shock and vibration.

With certification covering both dust and gas (Ex d and Ex t), the encoders not only suit offshore applications but are also suitable for underground use and other hazardous areas where explosive atmospheres are likely to occur.

The range covers singleturn and multiturn encoders up to 31 bit resolution (19 bit single-turn + 12 bit multi-turn) using Leine & Linde’s inductive scanning principle which has been developed for high noise immunity and complete durability against shock loads, vibration and other demanding environmental conditions.

Heavy duty bearings ensure high stiffness for axial and radial shaft loads and IP67 ingress protection and all stainless steel construction for housing, shaft and mounting flange provides corrosion-free safeguarding for marine environments.

The nominal size of the encoder is 58 mm in diameter and approximately 80 mm in length with both solid and hollow shaft options available.

To facilitate application flexibility, interfacing for the 900 series includes Profibus, Profinet, CANopen, DeviceNet, SSI and Endat.  Connection options include Ex-certified cable glands and connectors.
