Cylindrical actuator with two drive options

07 July 2008

The new linear axis from THK of the THK EKR60 actuator assures high rigidity with low weight. The drives are optionally either belt driven or ballscrew driven. With the belt driven version, the maximum rail length can be up to 1.800mm.

The geometrical moment of inertia of the cylindrical actuator profile achieves the same high level in both x- and y-direction. Thus, mounting positions can be freely designed, without having to stick to the preferred mounting orientation due to rigidity reasons. This is realised by an almost round profile section, ensuring a unique combination of low rail deflection with reduced weight. In comparison with the established linear actuators of KR and SKR, the compact cylinder axis EKR achieves rigidity values nearly equal to the sizes 46 and 55, whilst having a weight equal to size 33. The proven design concept of KR and SKR series with centrally located combined nut block for both guide and ball screw drive, is also used for the new cylinder actuator. The integrated caged ball technology features smooth motion, low maintenance, and low noise levels even under high speed operation.
