Seal range for aerospace sector

16 July 2008

A high performance line-up of seals aimed specifically at the aerospace sector is being showcased by Garlock Sealing Technologies at this year’s Farnborough International Airshow. Comprising metallic, elastomer and inflatable seals, the range has been proven in applications as extreme as cryogenic space and nuclear.

Helicoflex, O-Flex, C-Flex and E-Flex metallic seals are the result of over 50 years close collaboration with customers in aerospace. Technological progress in the sector has driven the demand to produce seals that work efficiently at extreme temperatures and pressures.

Based on application requirements, each metallic seal type offers specific benefits - E-Flex, for example, is designed for low sealing loads and high spring back for high temperature/high pressure applications such as fuel nozzles, compressor discharge and rocket engines.

Garlock Elastomer seals comprise of homologated compounds including FKM and Fluoro-silicon moulded onto anodised aluminium plate. These seals are generally custom designed to meet specific customer needs from applications including oil and fuel distribution on engines, tube hose and oil pressure sensors.

CEFIL’AIR is an inflatable seal used not only for sealing but also for positioning and holding components that require controlled disassembly. In the aircraft sector, CEFIL’AIR is being used to seal closures with complex profiles and also on fixtures used in the manufacturing process of Airbus wings.
