Software translates CAM tool paths for routing robots24 July 2008To implement robotic routing applications using tool paths generated in CAM software, KMT Robotic Solutions is now offering the CamPro CAD/CAM system for use with the company’s range of cost-effective, turnkey RoboTrim 6-axis robotic router trimming systems. As well as being an ideal way to implement robotic routing applications, the offline programming capability offered by the new CamPro software seamlessly integrates into the RoboTrim trimming systems to meet a preference among many manufacturers of thermoformed, injection moulded and rotationally moulded parts, especially those who previously used CNC trimming systems, to program trim paths in CAM software.
Utilising an off-line programming tool such as CamPro increases productivity by separating a great majority of the programming time required from the actual machine. Off-line generated programs based on part data can result in more accurate programs than can be achieved with teach pendant based programming. The graphical simulation capability of CamPro also allows for the robot program to be checked off-line, identifying interference situations before they occur on the actual equipment.
All of this saves programmers' time and results in more parts being made per hour so that robotic routing systems from KMT Robotic Solutions can trim parts with up to 50% higher throughput than traditional five axis CNC systems, whilst offering enhanced trimming flexibility and cost savings through increased productivity, uptime and safety.
There are features incorporated in CamPro to support use of RouterWare, to ‘hook’ into custom KMT utilities, and to automatically create usable robot programs (not just tool paths) from the CAM program. The CamPro software contains all the codes necessary to execute including tooling on/off statements, air moves from home, to safe, and to home positions, codes for AccuFind and codes for KMT user frame schemes.
In addition, a scheme of program size management is integrated into the program that is created so that the management of large milling programs happens automatically through robot memory, with support for drip-feed of large routing files and seamless integration into the SmartFile robot memory management software.
As well as being an ideal programming tool for a new KMT robotic routing system, the CamPro system offers an alternative for existing users of robotic routing systems looking to increase the productivity of their systems. The product need only be purchased once and allows the customer to program multiple KMT robot systems.
KMT’s range of cost-effective, turnkey robotic router trimming systems are designed for use on polymeric parts produced by thermoformers, plastics moulders and composite manufacturers for a wide range of industries including white goods, electrical appliance, automotive, bathroom equipment, consumer goods, marine craft and boatbuilding. The routing systems are also suitable for use in the aluminium industry.Contact Details and Archive...Related Articles...Most Viewed Articles...
