Decentralised drives reduce machine building costs(04/02/2013)

For lower power drives, typically up to 7.5kW, machine designers can choose their inverter drives to be either panel or motor mounted. Mounting the drive on the motor achieves a decentralised configuration, which can save time and money.

Test system gets straight to the point(14/09/2012)

Actuators that switch railway points are clearly mechanisms that are highly safety-critical. Proof that these actuators meet the requirements of exacting railway standards is one of the main functions of a new test system designed by QM Systems with some motion technology help from Lenze.

Spring applied brake for outdoor applications(22/08/2012)

The new INTORQ BFK471 brake from Lenze Techdrives delivers up to 1,500Nm in a package that is compact, economic and protected to IP66. This is a spring applied design that is normally engaged, and is released by applying a dc voltage.

Inverter takes the jerks out of water skiing(02/07/2012)

Waterskiing without a boat seems an unlikely prospect until one considers that until the advent of winch launches, gliders always had to be towed into the air. Now a Russian entrepreneur has done a similar thing for waterskiing, replacing the boat that pulls the skier with an electric motor controlled by one of Lenze’s IP31- rated SMVector drives.

Ball screws for efficient, dynamic linear motion(01/05/2012)

Ball screws are precise mechanical components that turn rotary motion into linear motion. Their function is efficient and they offer high dynamic performance. However, their application can be complex because of the need to consider factors such as speeds, loads, accuracy, duty and lifetime. Geoff Spear runs through the basic information that a machine design engineer should have at his or her fingertips in order to make educated choices.

    Lenze's new servo for multi-axis applications(20/04/2012)

Lenze's new i700 servo inverters deliver highly dynamic performance for multi-axis applications in the power range from 0.75 to 15kW. Designed for machines with central control, for example palletisers, wrapping, robots and assembly machinery, the i700 provides the option of a double drive that provides control of two servo axes from a single module, savnig cost, panel space and installation time.

  • Pressed for time? These trouser storage drives are a prefect fit(28/02/2012)

We review a newly installed, automated storage and retrieval system based on Lenze frequency inverters and geared motors that is capable of handling a stock of six hundred thousand pairs of trousers at the rate of five thousand pairs per hour

Motor mounted drive range is extended to 7.5kW(23/02/2012)

The Lenze 8400 motec range of terminal box inverters has been extended and new covers powers from 0.37 to 7.5kW. By decentralising frequency inverters instead of fitting them in the control panel, machine cabling and installation is simplified. The motec range can be mounted directly on the motor in place of the terminal box, or onto a nearby surface - an option made easy with the enclosure rating of IP65. Either way, panel sizes can be reduced and the cost of cabling is lower.

Increased protection for servo geared motors(17/01/2012)

Lenze has extended the application of its OKS surface protection system to servo motors and servo geared motors, offering an attractive alternative to stainless steel components. The highest of the three protection levels, the OKS-L, meets category C3 of EN ISO 12944-2. A primer coat plus two top coats are applied with a final colour that can be customer specified. Fasteners are zinc coated and sealing rings are applied to them. Output shafts and nameplates in stainless steel are options.

Lenze extends I/O system in response to customer demand(03/11/2011)

The Lenze I/O System 1000 has been extended in response to customer demand with additional bus couplers and module functions. The system is popular because of its compact size with DIN rail mounting, particularly easy handling and low costs. The high bandwidth of 48MBits/s allows speedy response times and the use of real-time buses. There are now three standard field bus and three Ethernet-based bus couplers available, each able to support up to 64 modules of I/O or other functionality.
