    White space standards body wants to 'kickstart deployment’(03/04/2012)

    Weightless, the body behind the Weightless machine-to-machine (M2M) communications standard for white space spectrum, has added its voice to  Ofcom's call for a ‘kick start’ of rapid regulatory turnaround, the rapid occupation of the spectrum, and deployment of M2M white space standards and technology in order to demonstrate its applications.

    Ofcom launches broadband maps site(06/07/2011)

    The UK's first interactive map showing accurate information on broadband take-up, speeds and availability has been produced by Ofcom, using data provided by communications providers. The regulator says it intends to publish a more detailed map later this year. Map options include: overall performance; average broadband take up; percentage receiving less than 2Mbit/s; superfast broadband availability, and averarage modem sync speed.

    Ofcom announces 4G spectrum auction(23/03/2011)

    Ofcom has announced plans for the largest ever single auction of additional spectrum for mobile services in the UK. It is equivalent to three quarters of the mobile spectrum in use today and 80% more than the 3G auction which took place in 2000. This spectrum is essential to meet the UK’s rapid increase in mobile traffic, fuelled by the growth of smartphones and mobile broadband data services.
