NSK has achieved a 40% cost reduction in the manufacture of a product for a major manufacturer of Automated Welding Guns. This has been achieved by replacing the manufacturer’s existing actuation mechanism, using planetary roller screws, with high quality, silent running NSK ballscrews that offer maximised efficiency and load carrying as a result of integrating a greater number of load carrying balls. NSK was called in as part of a cost reduction strategy introduced by the welding gun...

A single, intelligent stator can be used with any KiTorq rotor (30/01/2012)
The new Kistler KiTorq torque measuring flange system operates without an antenna ring and has standard flange geometry conforming to ISO7646 for easy installation. The open stator design allows faster installation whilst minimising the risk of damage and easier visual inspection during testing. The universal, intelligent stator may be used with any KiTorq rotor of the same speed rating for greater operational flexibility. A choice of 500, 1,000, 2,000 or 3,000Nm...
Bleed lubrication for linear motion slides (30/01/2012)
Now available as an option on all its core linear motion products is the HepcoMotion Bleed Lubrication System, providing constant lubrication to the slide vee face via specially machined pathways, connected to an external supply via lubrication inserts. Lubrication is delivered directly to the vee face and, in turn, it is picked up by the carriage and bearings as they pass over each lubrication exit point. In this way lubricant is carried around the entire system, ensuring an even distribution....
Combined roller bearings for horizontal and vertical linear motion applications (23/01/2012)
Now available from EuroBearings is a range of combined roller bearings that offer a combination of a radial and an axial bearing operating at 90º to each other on a common hub. The radial bearing carries the main load and the axial roller resists “crabbing” or side thrust. Both being cylindrical roller bearings of 'cageless' design, the bearings offer maximum load for size. Originally designed as a roller bearing for fork truck masts, both bearings are hybrid rubber/metal sealed.
NSK develops energy-saving bearings for high-efficiency motors (20/01/2012)
NSK has developed energy-saving bearings for high-efficiency motors that halve the friction loss of rolling bearings used in conventional products. The new bearings contribute to a reduction of electric power consumption by these high-efficiency motors. Reduced bearing friction loss means bearings operate at lower temperatures, which increases the reliability of motors and other devices to which they are fitted. Reducing CO2 emissions and saving energy have become...
Chain offers high performance in wet and corrosive duties (20/01/2012)
There are now four versions of Tsubaki’s BS/DIN European Standard Chain for use in corrosive environments. Each version is designed to outlast standard chains across the widest range of operating environments, including low temperature, sanitary, outdoor, wet and humid atmospheres. With lower operating noise and lube free options there is a chain type in this range that will suit most applications. The chains are divided into two categories: corrosion resistant and...
Self-aligning, wash-down, mounted bearing (17/01/2012)
Micromech can now supply Spyraflo's self-aligning, wash-down, mounted bearing, constructed throughout from FDA compliant materials. The electroless nickel plated pillow-blocks and housing-flanges combine lightweight with clean lines. The block is made of sintered aluminium, the retainers are of 303 stainless steel and Delrin acetal plastic spherical bearing inserts complete the washdown features. Features at-a-glance: ...
Non-contacting, precision torque sensor with optional measurement of shaft angle and speed (17/01/2012)
Ixthus Instrumentation is now supplying the Burster 8661 series non-contacting, precision torque sensor with optional measurement of shaft angle and speed. The new 8661 series provides precise and convenient measurement of static and bi-directional rotating torque ranges from 0-0.05Nm to 0-200Nm, with full-scale accuracy to 0.05% for analysing breakaway, holding and tightening torque. An integrally mounted optical encoder option provides additional angular position...
'Lift-Off' cam design enables higher torque backstopping and non-contact high speed overunning (09/01/2012)
Tsubaki’s new BR-HT (high torque) series of backstop cam clutches are designed to provide higher-torque (up to 366,000Nm) backstop functions and high speed (3,600rpm) overrunning. The clutches integrate a special design of lift-off cams that provide mechanical engagement only when needed, and optimised speed overrunning with no contact between cams and races. The high torque capacity of the BR-HT clutch is the result of a design featuring a full complement of cams,...
NSK’s asset improvement programme saves manufacturer of luxury handbags €636.371 annually in lost revenue (05/01/2012)
NSK has highlighted the relevance of its cost saving, bearing asset improvement programme (AIP) to all sectors of industry. By reducing downtime resulting from production hold-ups, the AIP has saved a manufacturer of luxury handbags the massive total of €636.371 in lost revenue. The cause of the lost revenue was the frequent failure of bearings on the inking machines that coat the side faces of leather used in the handbags. The bearings were failing regularly, every 6 weeks on each machine, due...
