Easy-to-install I/O system saves space and maintenance effort

Eaton's new XN300 I/O system features CANopen connectivity, plug-in connector technology and high channel density.

XN300 modules have a practical and convenient assembly system that, in conjunction with their plug-in connectors, allows I/O stations with sensors and actuators to be pre-assembled. As many as 20 channels require a frontal area of just 12.5mm x 102mm, including plug-in connectors and a display that provides users with an instant visual overview of operational status.
Groups of digital outputs can share switching, fusing and power supply arrangements, while some digital input units in the range have integrated counting functions. Some types of analogue input module offer extra functions, including temperature measurement, cold junction compensation and the generation of reference voltages.
The XN300 system is easily installed in two stages. The first stage, which can be conveniently carried out in a workshop, is the assembly of the I/O stations and the second is the installation of the assembled stations in their final locations, where they simply clip on to a standard mounting rail.
Further, because the modules feature plug-in connectors, users need only push stripped wire ends into the connector plugs, or plug in pre-wired connectors, and the system is ready for use. Modules can also be replaced or added quickly and easily during maintenance.
XN300 systems are integrated into automation systems at the fieldbus level via a slim (12.5mm) CANopen gateway module. Fast backplane communication in the CANopen system environment allows reaction times of less than 1 ms to be achieved, while up to 640 channels can be addressed for stations with the maximum of 32 subscribers.
