Innovative new drive system cuts costs

22 March 2016

Motor Technology launched a new drive system, from Axor Industries, that reduces cost by sharing the incoming supply across multiple axes.

This removes the need for filtering, power conversion and regeneration circuitry on individual drives, and reduced processor costs due to centralised control.

The new MACK drive system is based on a linked, modular design, with no fixed mechanical connection between the modules. All connections are over link-cables.

The power modules are available in three power configurations; single-phase 230Vac, 3-phase 230Vac and 3-phase 400Vac. Power ratings are 2500W on the single-phase and 4500W on three-phase modules. The power modules feature integrated EMC line filter, in-rush and regen circuits.

Monitoring and set-up of the system and connected drives is via an integrated USB port. The drive modules cover 2, 4, 6 and 8Amp ratings on the 300V DC bus and 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 5 and 7Amp rating on the 600V DC bus. All drive modules are capable of providing a peak current of 2x the nominal rating for up to five seconds.

Standard features of the drives include differential analogue input with emulated encoder output or clock and direction input. Options include CANbus and EtherCAT interfaces, safe torque off (STO) and extended I/O.

The MACK system is complemented with a range of brushless servomotors from 1 to 11Nm. The MACK motors feature AXOR’s proprietary MACK serial encoder enabling the connection of motor and drive via a single, hybrid cable.
