Servo drive range gets PROFINET module

03 June 2016

A new PROFINET technology module for the ARS 2000-FS range of servodrives, from Metronix, is now available from Motor Technology.

PROFINET (Process Field Network), is the open industrial Ethernet Standard of PROFIBUS and PROFINET International, and is outlined in the standards IEC 61158 and IEC 61784.

The new PROFINET technology module enables the ARS 2000-FS to be quickly and easily incorporated in a PROFINET IO network. The control of the drive is carried out using function and data-blocks that will already be familiar from the PROFIBUS communications protocol. Example building-blocks can be downloaded online to aid and simplify commissioning.

The complete configuration of the PROFINET technology module is carried out quickly and easily in the commissioning software, Metronix ServoCommander. The configuration of the process data is carried out in the same way as familiar under PROFIBUS using the ServoCommander's user friendly telegram-editor. Parameterisation and diagnostics can be run on the servo drives over PROFINET without the need for additional cabling.

To provide simple diagnostics and monitoring over the PROFINET network, error messages from the ARS 2000-FS are displayed in clear text in the control environment (Step 7/TIA-Portal). The servo drive can easily be integrated in S7 control programs with specific Metronix functions and data blocks for the S7 family of PLCs from Siemens.

All ARS 2000-FS servodrives typically feature a built-in EMC filter, integrated brake chopper and brake resistor. They therefore meet the current CE and EN standards without external accessories, and are immediately operational.
