Wireless testing and programming unit for miniature encoders
22 July 2016
A new testing and programming unit for Lenord + Bauer's range of contactless, miniature kit encoders is now available from Motor Technology.

The compact and mobile GEL 211 enables engineers to quickly and easily set-up and test Lenord + Bauer's full range of MiniCODERS remotely, using devices such as laptops or tablets, on machine tool applications without the need to open the spindle.
Lenord + Bauer's MiniCODERS are miniature, precision speed and position sensors that can be incorporated into the smallest of spaces within a machine such as on a rotating shaft, machine tool spindles, cams, or inside a motor or gearbox. The new GEL 211 testing device enables easy programming and set-up, provides diagnostic functions, data analysis and recording with report generation.
It can be used during installation, commissioning and servicing, as well as for routine maintenance and fault finding. The data derived from the SIN/COS signals, as well as reference signals, can indicate issues such as damage to the tooth-wheel, or run-out potentially caused by bearing wear.
In conjunction with the Plus series of MiniCODERS the testing unit is also able to provide access to the internal memory of the sensor that can store information such as the operating temperatures and can be configured to monitor the operating time and shaft speed of the equipment.
Typical applications include the commissioning, service and repair of high-speed spindles on machine tools such as high-speed cutting (HSC). For high value machinery the GEL211 can also be integrated into the control system to provide a permanent means of monitoring the sensor performance and conditions, ultimately providing early indication of any potential problems.
