It Might Just Be A Box, But It Helped Ppm Achieve Big Sales

01 October 2005

Among Pulsar Process Measurement's (PPM's) most successful new product introductions is the 'Blackbox' ultrasonic level and flow measurement system, which has an installed capacity already standing at 1,500 units. During development, PPM decided to separate the keypad and display from the electronics in order to make Blackbox a more compact alternative to its existing 'Ultra' range. A new enclosure was therefore sought. The company reviewed a number of products but eventually came down in favour of the Fibox MNX ABS 125/60 HT enclosure, which met its criteria for ruggedness, compact dimensions and aesthetics. In addition, some customisation was required (which Fibox willingly agreed to manage) and the unit needed to be environmentally sealed to IP67. The choice helped PPM to reduce unit costs against its Ultra product - one of the key objectives of the Blackbox development. There are in excess of 200 variants of MNX polycarbonate or ABS enclosures, each of which can be customised by Fibox to meet specific needs. PPM's 125/60 HT measures 130x130x60mm, has an ingress protection rating of IP66/67, impact resistance of IK07 and a flammability rating of UL94HB.
