Laser triangulation position sensor

17 March 2008

Ixthus has launched a new laser triangulation sensor with a CANbus interface capable of fast 1 Mbits/s position feedback over a measurement range from 2mm to 1000mm. With linearity to +/- 0.1% of range and resolution to 0.01% of range, the RF603 from Riftek is well suited for high precision position feedback.

Aimed at high speed non-contact measurement of position, displacement, surface profile and vibration, the sensor is also ideal for rapid product sorting and sensing.

For complete application flexibility, the RF603 is available in 3 output configurations: the CANbus interface version supports 1 Mbit/s data transfer and includes an RS232 serial port for parameter programming; the RF603 serial port version supports RS232 or RS485 at 460 kbits/sec; and the analogue version supports both 4-20 mA and 0-10V outputs. All versions include a synchronisation input and an alarm output for machine control interfacing, and both CANbus and RS485 interface models can be arranged for multiple sensor feedback through network operation.

The RF603 is packaged in a durable IP67 rated aluminium housing for superior optical and temperature stability when compared to plastic housed alternatives. In addition, the robust design includes a toughened glass lens suitable for most arduous environmental conditions. As a non-contact device, long lifetime and low maintenance are guaranteed.

The adaptable position sensor also has a range of cabling and connector options, and to augment its normal -10ºC to +60ºC temperature range, can be fitted with a built-in heater for operation at lower temperatures or with a protective air-cooled housing for higher ambient temperature use.

For fast and convenient set-up, the digital output versions include RF60X-SP software for testing and operating the sensors and for data collection and storage. PC based software is also available for digital display of sensor readings.
