Efficient filling in the automotive industry – with ready-to-install cable carriers

Cable carrier systems for coolant filling systems in automotive manufacturing are subject to special requirements: On one hand, they have to transport a number of different media – including hoses and lines for coolant, vacuum, compressed air, communication and, last but not least, electricity. On the other hand, cable carriers have to be extremely robust and highly available to reliably support the high cycle frequencies in automotive manufacturing.

The ready-to-install TOTALTRAX complete systems from Tsubaki Kabelschlepp have proven successful in the modern filling systems at SAT STERLING: They meet the special requirements of this application while also saving the manufacturer time and money. 

Efficient filling with coolants 

SAT STERLING developed special systems for automatic coolant filling for a customer from the automotive industry. These systems allow vehicles on the production line to be supplied with coolant as well as with windshield wiper fluid. The systems consist of two modules: The basic unit – which does not necessarily have to be positioned at the production line – is responsible for temperature-dependent mixing of the coolant, before transporting this to the mobile unit. “This automated mobile unit is located directly at the production line. It moves along with the vehicle to the right or left of the conveyor belt and fills it with the corresponding fluids while moving,” explains Carsten-Peter Hues, Head of Production at SAT ANLAGENTECHNIK GmbH. “We are talking about a travel length of 12-20 metres which is covered in 90 120 seconds.” Due to these short cycle times, one system can usually only fill every other car. Accordingly, at least two models are required for each production line; and in most cases a backup system is ordered as well.
