High-performance motor for the OEM
01 June 2008
Lafert has introduced a high-performance (HP) motor for the OEM market that can be engineered to match customer applications. The motor offers a superior output to that of a standard ac induction unit, enabling frame size reductions and weight savings of approximately 50%. According to Lafert, the HP motor can also help reduce operating costs by as much as 80%.
The new HP combines both brushless permanent magnet and conventional ac induction motor technology to achieve Eff1 (even ‘Premium Efficiency’ status) across the whole speed range and under variable load. The consequent lower temperature running also avoids the need for a cooling fan and its related losses. All these features combine to help product designers develop compact and efficient drive packages for applications such as pumps, fans and compressors.
The HP can be used with a standard servo drive when fitted with an appropriate transducer but, ideally, it should be used in conjunction with a sensorless vector drive to maximise its performance and efficiency. The motors are available for both single and three phase operation, with ratings of 0.75 – 2.2kW (200-240V 50/60Hz) and 0.75 – 22kW (380 – 480V 50/60Hz).
