RC300-CS fanless embedded PC system for railway applications with MXM GPU for AI enhancements

27 September 2021

Impulse Embedded announces the availability of the RC300-CS, a fanless rugged embedded PC system, featuring MXM GPU, targeting AIoT for railway and rolling stock applications.

Over the past few years, AI has become more and more prevalent in industrial applications due to its ability to work 24/7 improving operational processes, reducing overheads, and increasing workplace safety

The railway industry has also begun to adopt AI for autonomous driving and driver assistance, intrusion detection, predictive maintenance, crowd management and other surveillance or security applications.

The RC300-CS uses an Intel 9th generation desktop Core i7-9700TE processor and can be equipped with an Nvidia GeForce / Quadro MXM adapter. This adapter allows installation of some of the latest MXM graphics modules, such as the RTX 2080 and Quadro RTX5000, offering powerful inference capabilities right at the Edge.

The Core i7-9700TE is a 35W TDP octa-core processor with no hyperthreading and a 3.80GHz max turbo boost, supporting 64GB of DDR4 2666 via two SO-DIMM slots. For storage, there is an M.2 2280 M-key and four swappable 2.5" 7mm SSD storage bays with external access and locks.

The RC300-CS is packed with I/O and expansion features – there are 3 SIM slots, one half-size mini PCIe for Wi-Fi BT modules, two full-size mini PCIe with PCIe and USB signals, and an M.2 3042/3052 B-key for 5G cellular expansion.
With 7 Antenna breakouts around the box, you can set up multiple cellular connections for redundancy. In addition to the wireless expansion options, there are four serial ports, 8-bit isolated digital inputs, 8-bit isolated digital outputs, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, and four USB3.0 ports.

Not only is the RC300-CS a high-performance machine with a rich I/O interface, AI capability via GPU expansion, wide voltage input, and 5G networking capabilities, but it has also been certified to meet the various EU standards for use in railway and rolling stock applications. These certifications include EN50155 for electronics, EN45545 for fire, and EN61373 for shocks and vibrations, equipping the RC300-CS with the means to withstand the varied and harsh operational conditions that are commonplace in railway applications.

Impulse can help customers design and configure the RC300-CS with the required memory, peripherals, storage and operating system in its UK-based engineering facility.

Impulse Embedded’s Industrial Computing capabilities can be called upon to create reliable, repeatable and revision controlled systems time and time again, aimed at reducing customer’s overall project costs and development time. Its team of in-house engineers and specialists can offer customers fully deployable industrial computing solutions straight out of the box.
