Food for thought: Stainless steel and Mosmite film
25 November 2022
Elgens’ range of panel PCs, available from Relec Electronics, are designed to be rugged to withstand the rigours of the food processing industry.

The food processing industry has some of the most rigorous requirements for automation to ensure that food is prepared and packaged hygienically and safely, without fear of cross-contamination.
Monitoring and controlling the various process requires constant vigilance and computing solutions must be designed accordingly. They should be securely sealed against ingress, as well as able to withstand high-pressure water washing and extremes of temperatures.
The panel PCs, manufactured by Elgens, are available in industry sizes, from 12.1” to 21.5”, and are supplied in stainless steel enclosure which is certified for use in the food industry.
The fanless panel PCs are based on the Intel 7th / 6th Gen Kaby Lake-U or Skylake-U cores, they offer resolutions up to full HD 1920x1080, a PCAP touch panel and up to two LAN, four USB, one HDMI, one DisplayPort and three COM ports.
They have vandal-proof glass to protect the PC during high-pressure water jet cleaning. Another feature that makes them ideal for the food processing environment is the application of Mosmite film. This specialist optical bonding improves the optical characteristics of the PC. It prevents condensation from building up and obscuring the data on the screen as the temperature changes during cleaning with the change from hot to cold water for washing and rinsing equipment.
The panel PCs are certified up to IP69K waterproof sealing. The installation is enhanced with metal, waterproof connectors.
Relec also offers Elgens’ wide temperature panel PCs with the same resolution, PCAP touch and range of ports. They have a wide operating temperature range of -20°C to +60°C.
